12th Green With Morning Fog

Virginia Golf Club has new course ratings! A specialist team from Golf Queensland visited our club back in May to re-rate our courses in accordance with Golf Australia's new handicap system.

The results are interesting to say the least. What is our new rating for the blue tees? The white tees? The red tees? You can find out all the answers by clicking here.

Ekka Wednesday - Change To Competition

We are continuing to trial a change to our public holiday competitions.  For the Queen’s Birthday on June 14, both competition numbers and social numbers were up by more than 10% on the previous year.  Many members took advantage of the early timesheet slots (now available from 6:30am onwards).  Background information on the change can be read here.

We will continue to trial this format for the Ekka Wednesday competition on August 11.  This competition is now a single stableford.  The timesheet has now been released.

New Club Policy On Returning Scorecards

With the introduction of the new handicapping system, the Match Committee has formulated a policy on returning scorecards.  The policy can be read by clicking here.

The point we wish to emphasise is that a player should ALWAYS return their scorecard following their round. This is regardless of whether all holes were completed. By not submitting a card, the Club is unable to determine how well or how badly the member played. Thanks for your cooperation.

Barnes & Fay Win Dramatic RW Wilson Final
2010 RW Wilson Memorial

Daniel Fay and Glenn Barnes (pictured above left) have won a dramatic final to take out the 2010 RW Wilson Memorial.  With the match all square going to the final hole, a clutch par by Fay saw them defeat Ian Campbell and Travis Whiteman by the narrowest of margins - 1 up.

Whiteman had a chip shot for par on the 18th which could have sent the match into extra holes but it just slid past the hole.  You can see his priceless reaction above right.

A full report on the event including the complete draw and photos from the final can be viewed by clicking here.
