Chris Hunter
President |
Born and raised in New Zealand, Chris Hunter moved to Brisbane in 1987 and joined Virginia Golf Club in the following year. Chris is a licensed builder and developer. He joined the Board in 2001 and has served as both the House Director and Captain. Chris believes he has no “claim to fame” as a golfer but he immensely enjoys the friendships he has made during his time at the Club. |
Noel McLean
Vice President |
Noel McLean is a lecturer in Management and Communication at the South Bank Institute of Technology. He has worked in the corporate training and education sector since 1984. For 15 years, Noel ran his own successful property management business with his wife Wanita which they sold in 2003 to help find the time to raise their two children. He joined Virginia as a junior in 1973 where his love of the game began and has enjoyed the mateship and camaraderie ever since. Noel has been a member of the Board previously with stints as Vice Captain, Captain and President between 1988 and 1998. |
Matt Toomey

Matt Toomey is a Chartered Accountant who has been working in the Finance & Business Services Division at the University Of Queensland since mid-2008. Prior to this, Matt worked as an auditor for 9 years with a second-tier Chartered accounting firm. Matt has been a member of Virginia Golf Club since 1990 and has played pennants for the Club in every year since 1993. He has been a member of the Board since 2007. Matt is also the Manager of the Queensland Colts golf team, a role held since 2009. |
Rowan Fletcher

Rowan Fletcher has been a member of Virginia Golf Club since December 2002. He currently works in the Brisbane City Council as an Operations Support Analyst for the Council’s financial systems. He has served on the Match Committee since 2004 and served on the Board of Directors as Vice Captain from 2005 to 2007. Rowan enjoys the atmosphere and friendliness of Virginia Golf Club and values the many friendships made since becoming a member. |
David Buckle

David Buckle is a retired Primary School teacher. Over a 47 year period of employment by Education Queensland, he was appointed to the positions of Teacher, Deputy Principal, Principal and District Inspector of Schools in various parts of the State. David has been a member of Virginia Golf Club since 1989, a loyal caddy for the pennant team since 1993 and a member of the Match Committee since 2008. He is committed to the continued development of, and improvement to, the course facilities. |
Peter Daley
Treasurer

Peter Daley has lived in Banyo his entire life. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1984 and shortly thereafter opened his own practice in Banyo where he continues to advise clients in all types of legal matters. He has many plans to improve the Club for the benefit of Members and, as Treasurer, is actively looking for ways to pay for his ideas. As an avid golfer, he is a member of a number of golf clubs, but only Virginia is lucky enough to have him on its Board. |
Mick Newell

Mick Newell was born and bred in Brisbane and has been a member at Virginia Golf Club for 25 years. Mick worked in the pro shop under John Klatt for 5 years, served as Vice Captain for one year and played senior pennants for 6 years before starting a family. Mick works for Optus as a Regional Manager and is involved in the sponsorship of the Optus Business VGC pro-am. Aside from his financial skills, he is very keen to see Virginia back in division 1 pennants. |
John Heath

John was born and raised in New Zealand. He came to Australia in 1978 and joined Virginia Golf Club that same year. He is a fourth generation solid plasterer, by trade and currently runs his own concrete contracting business. This is his fourth year on the Board of Directors, having served the previous three years as House Director. John enjoys his time with the Virginian members and associates and is always approachable if you have any matters pertaining to the interests of the Club. |
Pat Buckley

Pat Buckley has lived in Nudgee for over 20 years, being a Brisbane lad born and bred. He retired in 2006 from a 35 year career in the public sector. He was initially a member of Redcliffe Golf Club but way back in 1992, joined Virginia and has not looked back. Aside from playing a lot of golf, he is President & Life Member of Vultures Social Golf Club, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, social golf club in Queensland and operates two not for profit golf tour organisations. When not golfing, he is a keen Broncos supporter and an avid cricket watcher. |
